As part of the 2019 Oxford Lieder festival ‘Tales of Beyond: Magic, Myths and Mortals’ Prof. Michael Scott will be talking on ‘Ancient Myths: Now and in the Future’ at the event ‘A Night at the Museum’ at the Ashmolean Museum, on Sunday 20th October at 7pm.

One of the highlights of this year’s Festival, this will be an evening in multiple parts at the Ashmolean Museum. In the Randolph Sculpture Gallery, Benjamin Appl and Graham Johnson explore songs of classical mythology, surrounded by Greco-Roman statues. Upstairs, in the rooftop restaurant, Michael Scott – well-known Classicist and presenter for BBC, ITV and National Geographic – gives a talk entitled ‘Ancient Myths Now and in the Future’. And in the stunning setting of the Mallett Gallery, with the Museum’s famous Kirkman harpsichord, Rowan Pierce and Nathaniel Mander perform songs by Purcell with roots in mythology.
