Ancient Athens is thought as the world’s first democracy. Our modern political systems are often linked back to the democratic practices of that time.

But what about our modern-day political problems too? Was fake news a problem in ancient Athens? Was there a ‘crisis of truth’ then as Barack Obama thinks there is today?

This interactive session will get us all thinking about if we can use ancient Athenian examples to tackle modern day political problems, like a lack of interest in voting. So come along and hear Michael, together with Warwick MA student Kat Broderick, discuss the surprising ways the past can illuminate the present.

This event will take place on Thursday 25 November 2021 at 1:30pm in the Warwick Arts Centre in collaboration with Resonate Festival presents Feelings of Freedom: talks that will change the way you think about freedom
